For Dan, it was never a question. When he grew up, it was always going to be tattooing. Born in Perth, WA, into the family trade and a legacy of Australian tattoo history. Instead of weekend sport like most kids, Dan’s childhood was spent in tattoo shops with some of Australias most influential pioneers. At 16, he was working the counter of Sydney’s infamous Sleevemasters Tattoo in Kings Cross, and his path was set.
Starting his career in 2010 at Jeff Rhodes’ Stingers Tattoo, he never wanted to just be the bosses son in the shop. After finishing his apprenticeship and a few years of tattooing under his belt, Dan flew to Vancouver, Canada, where he worked at Next! Tattoo developing a loyal clientele, allowing him to explore a wide variety of styles at techniques.
Returning to Sydney in 2018 and joining Rhys and the amazing LT crew has been a career highlight. Working alongside the talented group of artists that love what they do pushes and inspires him every day.
Like many great artists, Dan doesn’t have any formal art training and background; he is driven by a deep love and respect for the medium and the inspiring designs and ideas from his clients in each and every tattoo. Tattooing has given Dan a greater understanding of traditional art forms and the different influence art can have on people.
From counter hand to today and 8 years holding the machine, Dan is now following his own path and bringing his individual style to his designs and favouring the technical aspects and detailed linework of geometric, dotwork and illustrative designs.
When Dan isn’t in the shop, he loves to explore the world, usually to attend some form of punk live music festival or chilling out with his beautiful bulldog ‘Ruckus’.
